Uzbekistan introduces restrictions for alcohol and tobacco distribution, consumption

Bishkek, Zpresskg.com -  President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On limiting distribution and consumption of alcohol and tobacco products” on 5 October 2011, UzDaily.com reports.
Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 27 June 2011 and Senate approved it on 26 August 2011. The law comes into force after six months from the date of its official publication – 7 April 2011.
The document sets legal norms, regulating production and realization, as well as ban of import of alcohol and tobacco products, containing harmful substances to health of people at the volume, exceeding maximum allowed level.
The document said that the products with the volume of ethyl alcohol over 1.5% are alcohol goods, while any products with tobacco or its alternate are tobacco goods.
The law envisages full ban for realizing above-mentioned products in radius of 0.5 km from education establishments, stations, bus stations, as well as hospitals, cultural and sport establishments.
It is planned to realize goods with expired terms, without excise marks (except beer) and unclear marks, which does not allow to determine producer.
The law banks consumption of alcohol and tobacco at workplaces, rest areas, stadiums, museums, cultural establishments, bus stations and other objects, except special places allocated for smoking.
Ban for alcohol consumption will not spread to trade and catering objects, and places, hosting wedding, jubilee and other events.
Trade organizations could not sell alcohol and tobacco products to persons under the age of 20 and their sellers should request documents, showing their age.
In line with the law, both tobacco and alcohol products should have medical warning on danger of consumption. The document also set ban to sell cigarettes apiece or without package.
