President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev has met with the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke

President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev has met with the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke.

In his speech, the President noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches priority to the development of Kyrgyz-US relations, strengthening bilateral cooperation. Also Bakiyev outlined the situation in the country, noting in particular that, despite the international financial and economic crisis, the country managed to avoid the falling rate of economic growth and to achieve even a small growth in the economy.
 
In response, the Special Representative of the United States for Afghanistan and Pakistan R. Holbrooke has wished warm greetings and wishes for prosperity on behalf of the United States President Barack Obama and U.S. Secretary State Hillary Clinton. According to him, the U.S. is also interested in developing relations with Kyrgyzstan, and the present visit is part of the ongoing cooperation with the United States of America. 
The meeting also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan on how to further enhance bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between countries.

 

The deputies of Kyrgyz parliament to take part in the popularization of VII Winter Asian Games in 2011 in Kazakhstan

Leaders of youth organizations are already beginning to work on the popularization of VII Winter Asian Games in 2011, which will be held for the first time in Kazakhstan. The chairman of the Youth Committee of the People's Party "Ak Jol", deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Maksat Kunakunov, his deputy in the party, deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Asylbek uulu Damirbek,as well as chairman of the Political Council of the Young Guard of United Russia Ruslan Gattarov are invited as the guests to the youth rally on February 20, .

Kyrgyz opposition announced the main points of agenda of Kurultai session

Kyrgyz opposition announced the agenda of Kurultai session. 4 main issues have been determined, informed the leader of SDPC faction Roza Otunbayeva.

According to R.Otunbayeva, tariff policy of government, privatization of strategic objects, authority initiatives on the changing of the Constitution and human rights will be considered at the Kurultai session.

President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has signed Decree to hold the first session of Kurultai of Kyrgyzstan.

 

Agreement has been ratified between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on cooperation in the field of civil defense

President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed the law "On ratification of Agreement between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan on cooperation in the field of civil defense , prevention and emergency response, signed  on June 16, 2009 in Astana.

As previously reported by the Minister of Emergency Situations Bakyt Torobaev, the document defines the competent authorities of both countries in preventing and dealing with emergencies, provides forms of cooperation and collaboration in order to assist in emergency management.

The agreement will further promote cooperation between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in the prevention and elimination of emergencies and will allow exchanging experiences, technologies and equipment.

 

Bishkek to discuss issues of environmental protection in oil and gas industry in Central Asia

The Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan held a meeting of the Supervisory Council of the European Council's regional project "Strengthening the protection of the environment in the oil and gas industry in Central Asia", with the participation of representatives of oil and gas sector.

The main aim of the project is to improve the efficiency of gas transport networks in Central Asia, increasing the measures to protect the environment in their operation and increase capacity of Central Asian countries to gain access to European oil and gas markets. Among the specific objectives of the project was an environmental impact of oil and gas sector by promoting the corresponding changes in legislation on environmental protection and by implementing a number of local projects to improve its condition.

The results of other projects financed by international financial institutions and by the oil and gas producers will be taken into account in implementing these projects In addition, the planned feasibility study on the procurement of equipment needed for the cleaning the development mechanism.

 

Maksim Bakiyev offered EBRD to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan’s Development Fund

Head of the Central Agency for Development, Investment, and Innovation Maksim Bakiyev has met with the director of EBRD for Central Asia issues Masaru Honma.
M.Bakiyev has expressed gratitude to EBRD for its active investing activities in Kyrgyzstan.
Mr. Honma in his turn has expressed hope that EBRD’s investments will be allocated to the companies crediting with local capital.

 

Korean Ambassador suggests to open information center in Kyrgyzstan

Transport and communication minister of Kyrgyzstan Nurlan Sulaimanov met with the Ambassador of Korea to Kyrgyzstan Kim Byung-ho.

Issues of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Korea have been discussed at the meeting. Ambassador has turned to the minister to help in the opening of the informational center in Kyrgyzstan. Also issue of cooperation in the tourism sphere has been discussed.

Kyrgyz opposition demands to impose moratorium for new tariffs of energy

SDPK (social democratic party of Kyrgyzstan) faction has considered issue concerning the price increasing for utilities as heating, hot water, gas, electricity, communication and mobile service in Kyrgyzstan, reports the press service of Kyrgyz parliament.

Faction decided to send request to fix the prices for food and energy resources to the government of Kyrgyzstan.

Three earthquakes happened in Kyrgyzstan during the three days

Kyrgyzstan was hit by three earthquakes during the three days.

According to the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, the last 4.5-magnitude earthquake occurred today at 02.32 in the south of Kyrgyzstan. The epicenter was in the territory of Kyrgyzstan, on border with Tajikistan, in 150 kilometers to the southwest from Osh. The villages Karamyk, Kara-teyit, Zhekendi were hit by 4.5 magnitude earthquakes and the district Chon-Alays area of the Osh region - village Daroot-Korgon - 3.5 magnitude earthquake.
