Roza Otunbayeva inaugurated as the president of Kyrgyzstan

The President of Kyrgyzstan of the transition period, Roza Otunbaeva, assumed her post at the official ceremony in the building of the philharmonic named after T.Satylganov. She took the oath and received the presidential standard.

Head of CEC Akylbek Sariyev handed over credentials, standard and award pin of the head of the country.

According to the information of CEC, 90.55 % of voters supported referendum where R.Otunbayeva received presidential power until December 31, 2011.

 

 

Roza Otunbayeva is to meet with Russian president Medvedev in Kazakhstan

Kyrgyzstan’s president Roza Otunbayeva has paid official visit to Astana of Kazakhstan where she will participate in the 27th meeting of EurAsEC.

Also, it is expected that she will meet with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev on July 5.

EurAsEC includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

N.Nazarbayev has congratulated R. Otunbayeva with appointment to the post of president and adoption of the Constitution.

U.S. Embassy called for thorough investigation of mass disorders in the southern Kyrgyzstan

U.S. Embassy called for thorough investigation of mass disorders in the southern Kyrgyzstan with the participation of international experts, it is stated in the message the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The U.S. Embassy continues to monitor developments that followed the outbreak of violence in June, including actions against community leaders, human rights defenders and journalists covering the situation, "- said in a statement.

The U.S. Embassy also encourages the Government of Kyrgyzstan to take measures to ensure equitable treatment of all citizens regardless of ethnicity and support the reconciliation process.

  

European parliament to discuss situation in Kyrgyzstan

The European Parliament is due to include a discussion of the situation in Kyrgyzstan on its agenda. Catherine Ashton, the European Union's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, said parliamentarians would consider the recent referendum in Kyrgyzstan that moved the constitution toward a parliamentary, rather than a presidential, system of government.

Ashton called on Kyrgyz authorities to ensure the planned October 10 elections to parliament are carried out in full accordance with EU standards.

According to preliminary estimates committee, the damage from the mass disorders of the Jalal-Abad oblast amounted 465 807 000 441 soms.

Medvedev backs new Kyrgyz president

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday pledged support for Kyrgyzstan's new president, Roza Otunbayeva, and said he hoped she would be able to overcome all of the country's difficulties.

"I hope that under your leadership Kyrgyzstan will be able to achieve successes...and overcome the difficulties, and this will help rally the nation," Medvedev said during a meeting with Otunbayeva.

"In this respect you can always rely on the Russian people and the Russian state," he said.

On Saturday Otunbayeva was sworn in as president for a transitional period until December 31, 2011, after a new constitution was approved by a national referendum on June 27.

Otunbayeva said she could not rule out a fresh wave of instability in the former Soviet republic.

"At present there is a relative calm, but we are prepared for new outbreaks," she said.

Inter-ethnic clashes in the south of the Central Asian state claimed the lives of more than 280 people, according to government figures, and made thousand homeless. However, Kyrgyz officials acknowledge that the true death toll may be 10 times higher.

Otunbayeva, who came to power amid large-scale opposition protests that overturned president Kurmanbek Bakiyev in April, said on Saturday that Kyrgyzstan was going through "one of the most dramatic periods in its history."

  

EU is ready to cooperate with Kyrgyz government

EU is ready to fully cooperate with the Government of Kyrgyzstan, said the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel during a meeting with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbayev.

During the meeting, the EU representative noted the success of thereferendum on a new Constitution, held on June 27 which marked a new stage in reforming the political system and to legitimize the president and the Kyrgyz government for the transitional period.

P. Morel, reported strong interest from European countries to the past political event and confirmed the EU's readiness to interact fully with the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.


R. Kazakbayev expressed gratitude for political support and assistance of the European Union to Kyrgyzstan.

  

Roza Otunbayeva: Kyrgyzstan is ready to join Customs Union

EurAsEC summit took place in Astana (Kazakhstan), where presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Russia and Belarus have participated.

Summarizing the meeting, president of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev has said that the signing of the documents for entry into force of the Customs Code and other decisions adopted. The Customs Code will come into force in trilateral relations (Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus) on July 6.

Kyrgyzstan's new President Roza Otunbayeva told about the results of the referendum held in Kyrgyzstan on June 27. Also she said her country was studying the possibility of joining the Customs Union.

"A working group has been formed which is studying issues of joining the Customs Union," she told journalists after a session of the EurAsEC intergovernmental council.
